Secluded home in Le Caunil

Whether you crave peace, adventure, or creative inspiration, this is a spectacular spot in the heart of the Corbières-Fenouillèdes regional natural park – a location to escape from it all and breathe deeply. Tastefully decorated with real character, the house has everything you need for a comfortable getaway.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Not suitable for young children or people with mobility restrictions, due to steep internal staircases.

The space
The house centres around a large main room with a high ceiling, which opens out onto a breakfast terrace. There are two comfortable bedrooms, a mezzanine, and a shower room.
Outside is a breakfast terrace and a secluded, shaded garden with a gas barbecue, outdoor shower, and stunning mountain views in all directions. The house is recommended for up to four guests, but there is an additional bed on the mezzanine for a fifth person.
All three floors have direct access to the outside so you can fling open the doors and welcome the breeze. At 850m above sea level, the house and garden offer some respite from the summer heat, while a wood burner warms the house quickly in the cooler months.

Other things to note
The house offers a fine base for exploring this magnificent region. Here are ten day trips we recommend:

1. Visit craggy Château de Peyrepertuse and cool off with a swim at the Gorges du Verdouble.
2. Hike the Fôret d'En Malo trail from the village and enjoy spectacular views from the top.
3. Take an open-top train ride through forests and sweeping landscapes on Le Train Rouge from Axat.
4. Spend an afternoon enjoying the vivid colours of Collioure.
5. Tour the medieval fortified city of Carcassonne.
6. Climb the tower of Château de Quéribus for views towards Spain, then taste some sweet wines in nearby Maury.
7. Visit the local Château de Puilaurens and take a hike in the surrounding pine forest.
8. Go rafting down the Aude River.
9. Wander through the Gorges de Galamus and visit the hermitage built into the rock-face.
10. Kayak or swim in the bright blue waters of Lac de Montbel, and tour the plateau around Puivert.
